Poem
by
Patrick Collier

Instructed to glisten, the glass
sparkles, and to glitter, takes it to heart
like music that shatters everything around
with sounds guttural, rolling, high, staccato,
followed by a deep river roar with the sky
just light enough to watch the rocks, dull
close cousin's clink about the bottom;
and with the colors of neighbors and friends,
fiber, plastic, metal, wood, and fire-bulbed gas
dizzies the walls with their stories told
long and slow like fluid turned solid.
